Nominal Return

The stated return on an investment before adjusting for inflation.

Nominal return is the headline percentage gain on an investment without accounting for inflation. Comparing it with the real return shows how much of your gain is genuine growth versus simply keeping pace with rising prices.

  • A fund reporting an 8% gain is quoting its nominal return.
