About the percentage calculator

This percentage calculator handles the three most common everyday questions: finding a percentage of a number, working out what percentage one number is of another, and calculating a percentage increase or decrease between two values.

Percentages appear throughout personal finance — interest rates, savings rates, investment returns and discounts — so being able to work them out quickly is a useful everyday skill.

This calculator is provided for educational purposes only and does not constitute financial advice. Results are estimates based on the assumptions you enter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply by the number. For example, 20% of 150 is (20 ÷ 100) × 150 = 30.

How do I calculate percentage change?

Subtract the original value from the new value, divide by the original value, then multiply by 100. A rise from 100 to 125 is a 25% increase.
