Bull Market

A prolonged period of rising asset prices and optimistic investor sentiment.

A bull market is an extended stretch during which prices — typically of stocks — trend upward, often defined as a rise of 20% or more from a recent low. Bull markets can encourage risk-taking, so long-term investors focus on their plan rather than chasing recent gains.

Examples

  • A broad stock index climbing steadily for several years is described as a bull market.
