Geographic Arbitrage

Earning in a high-cost area or currency while living in a lower-cost one to stretch your money.

Geographic arbitrage means taking advantage of differences in cost of living between locations — for example working remotely for a high salary while living somewhere inexpensive. It can dramatically lower the portfolio needed to reach financial independence.

Examples

  • Keeping a big-city salary while relocating to a low-cost town is geographic arbitrage.
