Brokerage Account

A standard investment account with no special tax treatment or withdrawal restrictions.

A taxable brokerage account lets you buy and sell investments with no contribution limits and no penalties for withdrawing early. Because it lacks the withdrawal restrictions of retirement accounts, it is often central to funding an early retirement before traditional retirement age.

Examples

  • Early retirees often live off a taxable brokerage account before tapping retirement funds.
