APY (Annual Percentage Yield)

The real yearly return on savings, including the effect of compounding.

APY shows how much you actually earn on savings in a year once compounding is included, which is why it is slightly higher than the stated interest rate. It lets you compare savings accounts on an equal footing.

Examples

  • A 5% APY on $10,000 earns about $500 over a year with compounding.
